Provincial Priory 2010 Report

The photograph shows our Provincial Prior and Sub-Prior with the Great Seneschal.
On 3rd July, nearly 250 Knights assembled for the Annual Meeting of Provincial Priory at Oakley House, Bromley, despite the potential diversions of Wimbledon, the Tour de France, and what was left of the World Cup!

It was a gloriously sunny day, and the Bromley air-conditioning was working very well indeed, so nobody overheated. Visitors came from as far as Durham, Yorkshire and Spain, as well as Somerset and the South Coast, but they were all surprised by the unadvertised visit of the Very High & Right Eminent Great Seneschal, Malcolm Slater, GCT, who entered under the direction of the Deputy Great Marshal, Glyn Goddard.

The meeting ran exceptionally smoothly, and afterwards nearly 200 knights sat down to a very appropriate lunch for the day, comprising: melon, cold meats salad, new potatoes, cheeseboard, and our Traditional Kentish Cherries. The meal and especially the service was superb. All the visitors remarked that the serving staff performed like a well-drilled military unit (better than some Provincial Bodyguards, said one!)

The knights later left for home, well satisfied at having spent their Saturday in the best possible way!

American completes St George takeover

Rt E Kt Kessick Jones, Provincial Prior, along with newly installed Prior E Kt Bill Unger, and Installing Prior, E Kt Terry Tanner
E Kt Bill Unger, as previously reported, became Eminent Preceptor of the Kent Preceptory of St George in December. He completed the US takeover in June by being Installed as Eminent Prior of the Priory of Malta attached to the Preceptory. The Ceremony was excellently executed once again by E.Kt. Terry Tanner, witnessed by the Provincial Prior, and more than 60 other knights. E.Kt.Tanner also Installed 13 Knights Templar as Knights of Malta, expertly assisted by his team of Officers.

Another marvellous evening for St George's.

Eye Hospital Appeal Launched

At the Triennial World Conference of Knights Templar at Winchester, on 3rd to 5th September at Winchester, a new Charitable Appeal was launched.

The details are still a little "under wraps", but the essence is that Great Priory have undertaken to raise an extra £115,000 over 2 years for the St John’s Eye Hospital at Jerusalem. The specific project for which the funds are intended, hints the Great Vice-Chancellor, involves "a new building". Further details, he would not divulge as yet.

Great Priory, on behalf of the Eye Hospital, express their immense gratitude to all the knights for their past, present and continuing generosity, and hope that our support will reach new heights with this new appeal.

All knights may make individual donations, via the Province, by sending cheques for any amount to the Provincial Vice-Chancellor, Peter Wise, at:

41 Woodbrook Road, London SE2 0PE

made payable to Provincial Priory of Kent.

The Province will then channel the Funds to the Eye Hospital, to reduce their workload. The R.E.Provincial Prior hopes that Kent will be in the forefront of the fundraising.
